  2. 1. This Industrial Revolution included the discovery of electricty and all the conveniences which came along with that. This revolution was important because it created vast amounts of new technology and allowed countries like the US to become powerful.
    2. The Second Industrial Revolution was from 1870 to 1914. It ended when the world entered World War I.

    3. The Second Industrial Revolution was different because instead of Great Britain shining in terms of modernization, it was the United States. Many of the most important modern inventions were created in the United States, allowing it to become a global superpower. This was also different because it featured more science and 'Why'.

    4. Iron was replaced with steel. Iron was expensive, partially because it broke more easily whereas steel was more durable. Steel rusts less than Iron so it lasts longer.

    5. The Automobile:
The car, invented in the United States in the 1920s, revolutionized transportation. The car allowed people to travel freely as well as ship goods. In the US, truckers use automobiles to carry goods across the country. It allows people to go where they want and to more easily access remote locations.

    The Lightbulb:
The lightbulb was invented by Thomas Edison in the United States. It revolutionized working hours as well as leisure hours. Humankind was no longer limited by the hours of the sun and could now work into the night.

    Airplane:
The airplane permits travel and commerce. When email or telephones are not used, planes speed up mail. Planes allow military jets and allows people to go to other places.

    Telephone:
The telephone created a huge amount of communication. It permitted people to talk to each other quickly from around the world. It allowed faster communication, which allowed people to plan with others.

    Electricity:
The discovery of electricity was probably the biggest change brought about by the Second Industrial Revolution. This meant that factories no longer were limited geographically by rivers. It allowed the other inventions to take off and to change the way we work.

  3. 1. The Second Industrial Revolution took place during the later half of the 19th century and into the beginning of the 20th. It was a period of great inventions that changed life completely, altering communication, manufacturing, social life, and home life. Governmental reforms were also made.
    2. The Second Industrial Revolution started in the mid to late 19th century and ended at the start of the first World War.
    3. Many more inventions were created. These invention, unlike the first Industrial Revolution, changed not only specific industries, i.e. textiles and mining, but changed manufacturing and life as a whole. There were also progresses in the way that people understood the principles behind the inventions they made.
    4. Steel replaced iron as new metallurgy techniques were created. Steel is harder and stonger than iron. Steel does not rust as much as iron does.
    5. One: electricity. Electricity was revolutionary for technology. It vastly improved quality of life with the addition of another invention, the light bulb. Two: the light bulb. The light bulb blurred, if not erased, the line between night and day, letting people stay awake into the night and still be productive. Three: telephone. The telephone allowed instant communication with any place in the world, totally changing the way people communicate with each other. Four: the airplane. Visit anywhere in the world faster than you ever could have imagined. Flight did for transport what the telephone did for comunnication. The world was again made smaller as people could reach far parts of the globe faster and more easily. Five: the internal combustion engine. The car radically changed life, making transportation more private. People could move themselves by themselves, and faster than they had imagined.

  4. 1. The Second Industrial Revolution is a period where productivity and product quality both increased. Inventions in energy, materials, chemicals, and medicine were important because they all increased the effectiveness of research and development. People who created the machines and inventions in the Second Industrial Revolution actually knew how the machines work scientifically and technologically, instead of just knowing that they work without the knowing the logistics.

    2. The Second Industrial Revolution is considered to have spanned from 1870 to 1914 (when World War I started).

    3. The 1st Industrial Revolution and all of the inventions before it had no scientific base. There were chemistry industries with no chemistry, iron industries with no metallurgy, and power machines without thermodynamics. The people in the first Industrial Revolution did not know how the machines worked, they just worked. In the second Industrial Revolution, people started to understand how machines and other inventions actually worked through science. This allowed the inventors to fix bugs more easily and also create a more effective machine. Living conditions and the purchasing power of money increased rapidly since the new technologies hit both the working class and the middle class. Also, the way goods were produced changed during the second Industrial Revolution.

    4. Steel replaced iron in the Second Industrial Revolution. Wrought iron was inferior to steel in many uses. Wrought iron was not strong, and the wear and tear on it required many replacements which costed a lot of money. Steel has more strength, durability, and resistance than iron. Although steel is rather expensive, it does not need to be replaced as often as iron does because it is more durable.

    5. Five of the most important inventions that came out of the Second Industrial Revolution are:
    1. Thomas Edison's lightbulb. His model lightbulb was very effective for the time, and now it has improved greatly. Light bulbs are used to light up the rooms in a majority of people's homes, and now they have improved to the point where they can use much less power. Without the light bulb we would still be using candles and oil lamps.

    2. The telephone. This was a way to communicate from different places, which was very important to every country in the world. The telephone has now been improved to the point where you can make calls across the world at a semi-cheap rate.

    3. The airplane. When the airplane was invented, it changed the way people used transportation. The airplane was much more effective than previous forms of transportation like cars. It could fly over obstacles that would render a car useless. Airplanes have now been technologically advanced to the point where they can fly at about 500 miles per hour.

    4. Electricity. Electricity could power mostly everything during this time period. Thomas Edison's lightbulb worked with electricity, and future inventions used the technology of electricity for them to function.

    5. Improvements in medicine such as aspirin. Pain pills helped people when they were aching and they developed further to almost get rid of the pain in its entirety. Doctors could help people better than they could before because of these improvements.

  5. 1. What is considered to be the Second Industrial Revolution?
The Second Industrial Revolution was a period of growth from the original Industrial Revolution. It was characterized by the change made to use electricity instead of coal. It was an essential part of development in the field of technology.

    2. What time period is it considered to have spanned?
The Second Revolution took place from 1870-1914.

    3. What made it different to the Ist Industrial Revolution?
The Second Industrial Revolution was different to the 1st Industrial Revolution because it was powered through the use of electricity. It was a further expansion of the 1st Industrial Revolution.
    4. What important metal was replaced with another in the Second Industrial Revolution? Why was it an improvement for the world?
The commonly used iron was replaced by steel. This was beneficial because steel was less likely to rust than iron and steel was much more durable than iron. Many things that were made with iron would need to be painted due to rust and with steel this was not necessary.

    5. List the (5) inventions that came out of the Second Industrial Revolution that were the most important to the world. Include why you think these 5 were the most important
    • Light bulb- The Light bulb has advanced our society from
    • Electricity – Even though electricity was not an invention, it was essential to the development of inventions.
    • Telephone – This made communications much easier between people who were not located close.
    • Car- This has become our most commonly used form of transportation.
    • Asprin – This advancement made it easier to treat many of the problems that occurred at that time and was a great advancement in the medical field.

    1. The second industrial revolution was a period following the first industrial revolution characterized by developments in technology and science, which led to more advanced manufacturing processes. Advancements include the development of powered flight, the discovery of radioactivity, discovery of electricity and its applications, Portland cement, and Vulcanized rubber. Additional significant developments include telegraph, telephone, and radio communications.
    2. The Second Industrial Revolution is considered to have spanned from 1870-1914, and included the development of many new industries and production methods.
    3. The Second Industrial Revolution was different than the first industrial revolution in that it focused on the development of new technologies and methods of production. These included methods of mechanical refrigeration and effective canning. Additionally, the Second Industrial Revolution coincides with the development of the commercially viable automobile.
    4. Iron was replaced with steel as the primary metal used in industry. It had the advantages that it was stronger and did not rust as quickly. Also, steel is easier to shape and more ductile. Steel is an alloy of pure iron, combined with other materials such as carbon.
    5. The most important inventions of the Second Industrial Revolution were the development of AC power, mechanical refrigeration, the perfection of canning, the development of a commercially viable automobile, and developments in the internal combustion engine. AC power allowed for the effective long distance transmission of electrical power, which has allowed for the development of many other technologies. Mechanical refrigeration allowed for the transport of food products over much greater distances, and for better storage of food products, which led to increased food availability. The perfection of canning also allowed for the better preservation of food, and year round availability. It also made transport over distance simpler. Developments in the internal combustion engine led to the automobile, and provided a simpler to operate and more efficient means of production of mechanical power. The development of a commercially viable automobile, and the industry that surrounds it, continue to impact us today the automobile made it much simpler for individuals to travel over a distance effectively and easily.

  8. 1.The Second Industrial Revolution was a rapid growth where new products were invented. Already made products were greatly improved, which depended on smaller cumulative inventions known as micro-inventions.

2.The second industrial revolution took place from 1870 to 1914.

    3. The first industrial revolution didn’t really have any scientific base to it.
It created a ‘chemical industry with no chemistry, and an iron industry with no metallurgy, and power machinery without thermodynamics.’ People during this revolution didn’t really understand how things worked and therefore could not remove bugs, improve quality, and improve their products. The second Industrial revolution was based more off of knowledge since people understood more of how things worked. It also improved living standards and the purchasing power of money since new affordable technology was available for the middle and lower classes.

    4. Iron ore found in England was replaced or upgraded to steel. Iron was proved to be inferior to steel, since iron could rust easily and that would hurt the iron machine parts leading to the machine not being able to function properly. Steel on the other hand was more sturdy and reliable (didn’t rust) to build factories and machinery.

    5. -Light bulb: Was a new sources of light that replaced candles that were more
-Better Electricity: could more efficiently power machines and the new technology invented. People could now start to harvest energy.
-Telephone: It was a way to communicate with others when people wanted to instead of by letters which could take days or even weeks.
-Airplane: Allowed people to fly to countries and was later refined to let people travel all over the world, not just around their country. Instead of trains which had specific tracks which pass specific places.
-Medicine: Aspirin was invented to help people relieve their pains which was much more effective than bark or whatever they used to do.

  22. 1. The Second Industrial Revolution was a period in America 60-80 years after their original industrial revolution. Many of the inventions or industries during the Second Industrial Revolution supported the advancements made in the first one. For example, steel replaced Iron in new machinery, railroads, and trains. Henry Ford also improved the British-made steam engine and used his new models in American automobiles. Steam powered printing presses made communication easier. Above all, the Second Industrial Revolution made further progress on inventions and technologies from the original American Industrial Revolution.

    2. It lasted from about 1870 to 1914. It ended with the beginning of the First World War.

    3. The Second Industrial Revolution was on a smaller scale than the first one. They used reasoning to find ways to practically improve the machinery, transportation, and communication in order to make the processes (which were created by the original Industrial Revolution) more efficient. Working unions also got people to be paid more and have better working conditions.

    4. Steel replaced Iron during the Second Industrial Revolution. It was stronger and less susceptible to rust and for this reason, it replaced Iron in many of its uses.

Airplane - Changed transportation and revolutionized the way people viewed the world. It also resulted in deaths when considering the World Wars and other modern warfare.
Telephone - Allowed people to communicate much easier.
Internal Combustion Engine - Allowed people to travel much more efficiently than with the previous British steam engine.
Canned goods - Resulted in foods being produced in mass and distributed much easier than they could’ve been before.
Refrigerator - It allowed for foods to last longer and be at a specific desired temperature.

  23. Hannah Dickson:

    1. The second industrial revolution marked the beginnings of electrical, chemical, petroleum, chemical, and steel industries. The revolution also perfected means of preservation techniques.

    2. The revolution is believed to go on from 1870 to 1914.

    3. What makes the second industrial revolution so different from the first is that America took the good ideas of Britain, and left out the bad, which lead to a more prosperous era of industry development. Also, with resources such as cotton growing native to the country, the textile industry thrived more than that in Britain, who had to import all the cotton from another country. This cost the country more money and time to import all the not native goods.

    4. In the second revolution, steel replaced iron ore. The steel was stronger, lighter, and cheaper than iron ore.

    5. Airplane: allowed very distant travels to be made easily, also helped during wars. The planes also allowed quick travel for mail.
